Our journey
Emakina was created in 2001 by the merger of three agencies with complementary expertise: Emalaya, NetAtWork, and Ex Machina. In 2006 it entered Alternext, Euronext's segment for growing SMEs.
This splash into the financial markets enabled Emakina's expansion, which started in 2007 with the acquisition of Belgian agencies The Reference, Design is Dead, and Your Agency, which have been part of the Emakina Group ever since. We’ve now spread across Europe, with agencies in the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Turkey, Austria, Sweden, Croatia, Serbia and Poland. The Group has also settled in the Middle East, with an agency in Beirut, as well as in Africa, with our Cape Town agency.
Thanks to an ideal mix of creativity, technology expertise, and business acumen, Emakina has become the leading digital agency in Belgium, and one of the top 20 players in Europe. Since joining EPAM Systems in 2021, Emakina’s capabilities are boosted by their digital transformation and product engineering expertise. Together, we fuse strategy, engineering, creativity and analytics to better serve our clients.
Big moments
Let’s rewind. We’ve been dreaming, designing and building for decades and have evolved along with changing expectations. Take a scroll through our backstory and the moments that have brought us to where we are today.
Carbon neutral from agency to building

Reduction & offsetting
Carbon neutrality implies a balance between the carbon emitted and the carbon saved from being emitted elsewhere and/or absorbed out of our atmosphere. Our 1st focus is on reducing our emissions. However, there are some emissions that we have not been able to get rid of completely. To even out our impact, we’ve invested in clean cookstoves in Rwanda. This partnership is the perfect example of how carbon offsetting programs can help our world achieve carbon neutrality whilst also having a strong social impact.
This certification encourages us to go further in our sustainable thinking and approach. It will inspire us to constantly measure & improve our own carbon footprint.
